I do not recommend this device
I purchased this device about 2 weeks ago and started using it 9 days ago. I noticed it was not counting steps accurately and I was losing about 20 to 30 percent of my steps. Further it did not register any ACTIVE minutes even though I normally have around 25-30 active minutes for every 30 minutes of walking. Those averages have been consistent for 2 years. I contacted Virgin and after 7 days of performing tests and providing information I was told that they could not replace the device since the tests couldn't be validated. Based on all this I believe the device to be highly inaccurate and will affect your total step counts. I should add in closing I found in my invalid tests that the faster I walked approaching 4 miles per hour the more inaccurate the device became.

Great improvement over the Max
Sorry, Max, but the Buzz is an incredible improvement! Where Max was bulky and awkward, the Buzz is sleek and better-fitting. I like charging it via USB versus all the batteries, and when you add the alerts from my phone and the Virgin Pulse app, this is, hands down, a winner! I was thinking of ditching Max for a FitBit, but not only do I love the Buzz, it was "purchased" with reward points, so the price couldn't have been better. The Buzz has been an all-around "win" for me. I HIGHLY recommend it!

I really like the fit and look of the Max Buzz.  It counts steps great and is easy to use.  Only downside is although the Buzz says it is tracking my active minutes, it does not log them!  I am loosing points over this.  It also says on the box it comes in that it tracks sleep.  My Buzz does not track sleep, but I do enjoy that it has an alarm to wake me up!

Could be better
I have been using the max buzz for about a month now. The positives for this wristband is I find it to track steps very easily. Also it does work as a watch, also has a feature to have alerts via text or phone call and your wristband will vibrate and show the first words of the text or who is calling. The two negatives are, 1. this device will never track active minutes. I lift 4-5 times a week for 1 to 1.5 hours and I am lucky to get 1 minute of active mins. Also I run twice a week, on average 10 mins. I will maybe get 5 minutes of active minutes. So you may lose pts there. Hopefully they update this. Also something I have noticed, but really isn't important is the registering hours of sleep is way off. Usually says I have 2 hours of less sleep then what I really get, but not a big deal.

Sleep sync
Sleep syncing seems intermittent even if you wait until after 6 am to sync with the phone app.  And the Buzz doesn't seem to sync automatically w/ the phone app; so, I go into the device settings in the phone app and click "save" to push through a sync, manually. Maybe in time it will become clear how to maximize its effectiveness but this has been my experience after a week.

Nice Improvement
I really like the Buzz.  It's lightweight, sleek, and does almost everything the FitBit Ulta does, and for way cheaper.  I can read my texts, get call alerts, set alarms, and track steps, calories burned, and check the time.

The only thing it DOESN'T do (that I wish it DID do), is track Active Minutes.  Hopefully that is coming up in a firmware update... (hint, hint, VP!)

I love my new Max Buzz. I used to have Max and it was bulky on my arm. The Max Buzz is not bulky it is like wearing a watch. I believe it is more accurate than Max also.
Thanks for giving us another choice.

It's alright
It seems to track steps well, but it doesn't track your sleep accurately at all. It doesn't track naps and sometimes after 7+ hours of sleep, it'll have only tracked 4. It takes multiple tries to even get the display up too. The charge does last a long time, and it charges quickly. If it tracked sleep better and had a more detailed chart of your sleep, I'd like this a lot more. It's better than a pedometer, but obviously not as good as some of the more expensive tracker options. The text alerts are a nice addition, but I don't have Bluetooth on all day so I don't use that feature often.

Decent for the price
I've had the device for almost 2 months now and overall it is a great device for the money.

Pros: Tracks steps nicely. The battery does last about 5 days as advertised. I like that it can alert you of incoming calls and texts and even reads you basic text messages. Another huge plus is that it's water resistant so you don't have to worry about showering with it, unlike Fitbit which you can't shower with.

Cons: It does not have any buttons so you can't cycle through any menus of steps, cal burned. distance. etc. They seem to randomly appear on the screen it seems like. No heart rate monitor. Does not track active minutes even though it is a feature. Does not sync well via Bluetooth on my iPhone 6. I always have to disconnect the Bluetooth device and search for it again. And currently it's not finding my max buzz.

This is my first fitness tracker. After reading reviews, I chose this based on price. I figure for $25 it's definitely a fine tracker, but I cannot get phone notifications to work on my Buzz. I have followed every troubleshooting article, reached out to customer support, and it notified me of a phone call one time and hasn't since then. I supposed for the price I can't complain too much because it does work as a tracker. Just super frustrating that I can't get it to display phone/sms notifications.

Great device, especially for the price
Had my Buzz for a bit over 2 weeks now. This is a substantial improvement over using the Max Pulse with a wrist strap. I never really liked the Pulse holders, since in my experience they tended to cause the button on that device to break off, and the wristbands were very low quality in my opinion. The band on the Buzz seems to be much higher quality, and I have also found that I need to actually take it off much less frequently, which I assume will  The water resistance is by far my most favorite feature. I have gone swimming with it a few times and I have taken showers with it on (just to see how it would fare), and have had zero issues.

With regard to performance in water, as far as I can tell the entire device is completely sealed. Given its total lack of external buttons and a protruding USB connector with sealed gold plated contacts, I think this should comfortably survive much deeper water than its IP67 rating would imply. The device uses its internal accelerometers for all user input (more on that in a bit). I wouldn't recommend taking this on, say, a scuba diving trip, but I swam around in an ordinary in ground pool (10 or 12 feet deep) without any issue.

With regard to user input, to activate the display, the instructions indicate that you should move your wrist towards you in a natural "checking my watch" motion (it doesn't say that exactly, but I don't know how else to describe it), and you simply tap it with a finger to cycle through the info after it is active. I did not find the wrist motion to be immediately intuitive, and it isn't 100% reliable, but I have gotten much better at it over time so I think I might just need to refine my movements a bit more.

The device is also capable of displaying incoming phone call numbers and also entirely displaying text messages (as long as they are not excessively long). This was not a feature that I thought was advertised well, and that is a shame because it is very nice to have. The vibrating alarm is nice too since I tend to sleep like a dead person.

The step tracking accuracy is also much better than using the Max Pulse on my wrist - I found that the latter would miss a LOT of steps compared to having it in my pocket, but I wore this along with my friend's FitBit (which cost more than 4 times as much), and got a negligible difference.

All in all, this is an absolute steal for $25. Obviously I don't know how good this will hold up in the long term, but it seems to be at least reasonably well-constructed and designed. Considering that to get a comparable device from another manufacturer you would be paying at LEAST 4 to 5 times as much, unless that device lasts almost 5 times as long you're still coming out ahead.

Not so good.
Seems to work OK for steps, but sleep tracking gets about 1/2 of your sleep hours.  I find it fussy to get the watch to activate when I want to see the time.

I can play recreational soccer or ultimate frisbee for an hour or so and it only gives 1 minute of 'active time'.

Good, but needs screen protector
I've had my Max buzz for a couple of months and within the first month the screen got several scratches. Now it is scratched all to hell!! I really like this tracker but it needs a tougher screen or a screen protector so it doesn't get scratched like this. It interferes with numbers on the screen and makes it hard to read. I tried to order another one because my work pays for two a year, but for some reason I have to pay for it now.

a good pedometer, that's it
If you are getting this to participate in Virgin Pulse as part of a company Wellness program, save yourself the massive headache and get a Fitbit. It's more money up front but you will quickly earn it back because it actually tracks things like active minutes and sleep accurately which this does not. The Max Buzz is perfect if you are a man (the band is too uncomfortable on my small arm) and only want to count your walking steps without using any of the other features.

Happy so far
The old Max was ok.  Had issues with the batteries dying quickly, not syncing all the time, and was susceptible to water and other things.

The Max Buzz has been AWESOME!  No batteries; I'm going on the 3rd day after the initial charge and I still have full battery charge.  I don't have to worry about water getting into it just from washing my hands or washing dishes.  Looks nicer.  It's a much better deal overall than the old Max

Great Features But Aggravating Too
I purchased the Max Buzz after I lost my prior pedometer. It has all the features of my prior Max pedometer plus it alerts me when I get a text and my phone isn't near by. This a great pedometer when it is charged. That is what's aggravating. I find it really difficult to connect the pedometer to my computer or my iPhone USB port making it really difficult to charge. I'm regretting not purchasing a pedometer that uses a battery.

You get what you pay for
Pros: It reliably counts steps.
Cons: Everything else.

SLEEP! - This is a complete nightmare when it comes to sleep "tracking". If I don't wear it like a vise grip, it doesn't track any hours. It still misses sleep even if I do. It is also never accurate for hours. I've gone from 2 - 12 hours when it should be 6 - 8.

14-day data storage - I've had days lost if I don't sync before midnight. All the steps for that day, just gone.

Night mode - This does not work. AT ALL. It does not turn off the display and it does NOT "dim" it; it is still just as bright otherwise.

This thing is so unreliable just trying to turn on the display; it never happens when I actually want to look at it. Why couldn't there just be a button?

No instructions provided in the box on how to actually use the device itself.

Be very weary with this. It CAN work, but RARELY does consistently.

stopped syncing a month and a half in
Use this to connect to the virgin app. Worked fine for about a month and a half. Now, it won't sync when the app opens.  No clue if it's the app or band that's broken. My phone can find it though, so maybe it's an app issue. Was good while it was working.

Good watch, although!
I have had this watch for some time now and has worked great, no problems with functionality or display, and keeps track of my steps. Only issue I have is, if you don't sync before midnight you lose your progress, I have walked 20,000 or more steps on some days as I work a swing shift, it does not hold the data for 14 days as described in n the description of the watch. Other than that, it works!

Good for price
My husband just spent double on a fitbit (flex?) and it takes way longer for his to charge and he has no display. His battery also doesnt seem to keep a charge as well.

Wish it came with instructions because at first I did not know how to work the display. You just lift up your hand like you are reading a watch, and the display should come on. Tap the screen (sometimes you really have to tap it hard) to toggle between time, steps, cals burned etc. A button would have been nice.

Battery lasts almost a week and charges quickly. I sync it with blutooth about every 2-3 days. It tracks sleep but I can only view that on the website, not the app. Some days it says I only slept 2 hours which is inaccurate. Probably from tossing and turning and not just taking the watch off @ night.

Overall it is a good price for what it is. Seems to count steps much more reliably than my iphone. I don't have any regrets buying it. Plus water resistant!

I was looking for a little better device.
I didn't want one that gets calls or text, but I did want one that monitor your heart.  And for some reason I'm having a hard time getting it to come on when I want to check my steps.  It also need to inform people that it can't be charged unless you have a laptop or computer. That part really sucks!

You get what you pay for
This tracker counts steps, which is mainly what I wanted it for. The clock function would be nice if I didn't have to shake my wrist like a crazy person to get the display to show up. Also, it hasn't tracked active minutes when I've worked out, which is a bummer. Finally, the bluetooth function does not work well. I have to disconnect and reconnect my bluetooth at least once per day to get the device to sync. It can also be kind of tricky to get into a charger, but fortunately it's holding a charge for up to a week. I don't think I would get another one of these, I'd probably just save up for a nicer tracker.

Very inaccurate - not even close
Order this only if you are OK missing steps.  Once you order it, you cannot return it under any circumstances (unless defective, but Virgin Pulse will not see it as defective based on the information from Support - see below)

I did a side by side comparison with my Max Buzz and my Max Pulse. I did my usual morning walk. My Max Pulse logged 6341 steps, 304 calories burned, 3.4 miles, and 25 active minutes. My Max Buzz logged 5762 steps, 243 calories burned, 2.78 miles, and 11 active minutes. My iPhone logged similar to the Max Pulse. Google maps shows my route to be 3.4 miles.

I asked Support for help, and this was their response:

"The Max Buzz device has accelerometer-based technology, which means that there may be a slight delay before the display shows an increase in step count. This happens while the accelerometer determines if the activity is continuous. Slight movements - or a few steps here or there - may not always be counted. Your Max Buzz is meant to track sustained activity, which is the best kind of activity for your health.

"Please note that the two trackers you are using, even though both are Virgin Pulse products, they will track your movement in two slightly different ways when it comes to both steps and active minutes. That being said, if you wear both the Max Activity Tracker and the Max Buzz, the chances are that they will display slightly different numbers.

"Please note that Max Buzz and Max activity trackers are two systematically different trackers that use different algorithms to track data.

"To earn active minutes via Max Buzz, you need to have more than 135 steps per minute. It equals to about 4 to 4.5 miles an hour, depending on your stride length, like a jogging pace.

"Max Buzz will not count active minutes if there are any pauses in running/cycling as you need to have more than 135 steps per minute in order to claim 1 active minute."

In the end, I went back to my Max Pulse.

Its actually GOOD 👍
For the price I cannot complain. It alerts me when I get texts and phone calls which I like because its faster to look at my wrist than to dig for my phone.

Easily tracks my steps & syncs up with the app,I DO wish it gave you your heart rate too but thats ok. Im able to charge it in my car while I'm driving or even at home on my cell phone charger adapter.

The only thing I noticed is that ot DOES NOT count my "active minutes" for reasons unknown...but overall I like it!

Glorified Pedometer
The tracking is entirely based on steps. If that is what you are looking for it is passable.

But                  ewI take a conditioning class at my gym 2-3 times a week, wearing a heart monitor (a model Virgin does not recognize). It tells me my heart rate is at 75-95 percent of max for most of the hour long session. My calorie burn is 800-1000. Max Buzz MAY give me an "active minute" or two if we have a lot of footwork exercise. And registers perhaps 150 calories burned.

And somehow Max Buzz decided I had gotten 8.5 hours of sleep last night, though I was having a bit of a white night and only got my eyes closed for 5-6.

I really enjoyed this tracker and it price. It was nothing more or less than I needed, but I have only had it for 9 months and it has stopped working. It wont hold a charge. When I can get it on, I can't get the screen to work and worst of all, it will not sync to my device, so I am not earning my points.

Bare Bones Basic But, no Bells ...
Lost my Charge 2 HRM, which I loved, but didn't want to pay to replace it.  The Max Buzz doesn't even come close: Only tracks sleep time, not type; didn't seem to track activity time much at all, so it was pretty much just a pedometer that also tracks how long you sleep. So if that's all you want, then this will work.

Syncing Problems
Though I like this item, mine is very inconsistent with syncing.  I have gone around and around with customer support and have done everything they tell me to do, yet is does not sync my sleep behavior all the time even though, I have been asleep for more than 8 hours.  Some days it syncs, some days it does not.  I wear it like they tell me to, yet it does not sync consistently.  Very disappointed with this.

Great product, great price!
I've had this for about 4 months and really like it.  Decently tracks steps and sleep, plus its waterproof!  Sync with my phone so I get previews of texts, and caller ID.  Battery last about a week on a single charge.  Highly recommend, especially for those who don't want to invest in a more expensive tracker!

It's okay
The wristband isn't terrible and holds up okay. The battery doesn't last 5 to 7 days, more like 1.5 to 2.5. Being a mechanic it is nice that you can easily wipe any oil or diesel fuel off of it. But only after a few months the plastic part of the usb broke off and eventually it wouldn't charge.

Great for the Price
The Max Buzz is a great tracker for the low price.  I love the size and ease of putting it on and off.  I have also never lost it, and the charge does last at least a full five days, and it charges quickly.  I have had no problems syncing steps.  The two negatives about it is that you have to really shake your hand to get the display to show up, and the screen is not very durable.  I have only had it a few months and the screen is horrible scratched and gouged so that I am going to have to either replace it or so with another tracker.  I wish it had a protective screen cover or something to protect it.  I am not hard on things and I don't even know how this was damaged.  Other than that, for $24.99 it is a great device and well worth the money.

In a nutshell
Virgin Pulse doesn't provide good support.  I keep reading other reviews to find the same issues I had and no improvements or resolve from Virgin Pulse.  I actually like the Max Buzz for what it does...when it does it.  Concept is good but Virgin Pulse support seems to be very bad.  They obviously don't back their own product.  It's a shame. Many people want the simplicity the Buzz offers, but it isn't consistent. The product says it has a 14 day retention, but if I don't upload mine each night before bed, my steps aren't all counted and it won't upload next day or so.  So it doesn't hold for 14 days obviously.  I have complained before to Virgin Pulse and they had no resolution for me.  Nor do they replace a defective Buzz.

Stopped charging
I have enjoyed my Max Buzz for the couple months I have been using it (daily), but gradually the text notifications stopped working and now it no longer charges at all. The fit in the charger was always awkward, so it is not surprising that it stopped functioning.

Good for the price
In the course of a couple weeks I have tried out 3 different ways of tracking. The first few days I used the Google fit app on my phone. This was inconvenient as I had to carry my phone everywhere and it took a lot of work to get 10k steps. Next I tried this Max buzz as I thought it wouldn't be to much of a loss for the price. I didn't need to do much to get my steps with this device. I think it overcaluates as I was getting between 14k-16k with only a little effort. Then sometimes in the morning I would try syncing it and it would take a few trys and when it finally worked it registered more sleep than I actually had. While it is not the best looking and a bit inaccurate it is great for the price. *Side note it was too wide for my small wrist.* Recently my husband bought me a Fitbit and so far it is a much better choice for me. I do need to work a little more than with the Max buzz, but not as much as Google fit, so I am assuming that it a more accurate device.

Works well but hate the wristband!
This tracker works well despite the facts that the display does not always come on easily by moving your wrist.
What needs to be redesigned is the wristband. It is hard and a lead to a wound on my wrist which has a hard time healing even after several weeks and even after I put a bandage on my wrist and wrapped the end of the band with a bandage, which really does not look good.
This is forcing me to buy a pedometer that clips to my belt. Not super happy that.
Please redesign the wristband!

It is decent at tracking steps. Overall, its appeal is that it is inexpensive and generally works.

It has no clue about your sleep. I settled in for 8.5 hours of sleep. I was asleep within minutes of laying down and up with the alarm clock. I got credit for 6 hours and 50 minutes. Another night I got credit for 8 hours of sleep for time that included watching a movie from the EZ chair. The band is cheap and pulls apart where the USB connection is found. It will fall off if you bump it or even at night while you sleep.

Not charging properly
Basic pedometer. OK when it is working as advertised.
Mine doesn't. Getting approx. 1 day after fully charging. Support wants me to turn off Bluetooth to see how it can run then.
Why ? It is advertised "using low energy Bluetooth, one charge to last 5-7 days".

Some other details you should be aware of:
- Seems "active minutes" is solely based on steps/min (e.g. cycling at your max will not be detected)
- Turning your wrist in the right move to make the display light up can be a challenge - of course lights up at unexpected times in other cases :-)

Buzz works great!
I like the fact that you don't have to replace a battery periodically. It's not water proof. However, it's water resistant. After a workout, I wear it in the shower, soap it up and rinse it off. Never an issue. Tracks sleep well also. Perfect if you're looking to track steps, sleep and use as a watch.

Seems okay
Never having worn a fitness tracking device before, I’m guessing this is okay. I just get frustrated because half the time I try to twist my wrist to read it, it does t turn on. When it does turn on, it rarely shows me more than the time and the battery life. I can’t have my phone on me at my job, so I can’t keep an eye on my steps throughout the day. As a teacher, I am on my feet a great deal and want to know from time to time where I am.

Want to love it
First of all I have to buy a new one because the last one wouldn't stay latched and I finally lost it.
Second, depending on how I had it set up, I either had problems with the display coming on all the time which made the battery run out fast or the display was hard to get to come on so I couldn't rely on it for the time.
I do love that I can get it wet though!

I only grudgingly wear a pedometer in order to level up on Virgin Pulse and get money, but this one is rather disappointing replacement for my Pulse Max that was lost.

1. It's too big. I can tighten the wrist strap to where it's uncomfortably tight, but it's still TOO WIDE for my small to normal wrists and I can't fix it.

2. Sleep tracking doesn't work unless you're WEARING the pedometer (which obviously I wouldn't do because it DOESN'T FIT and it would disturb my sleep). The first night I left it on my nightstand and it tracked, the second night it did not. My coworker's tracks when he leaves it on his kitchen counter overnight, but mine won't.

3. It thinks crocheting is walking, so at least I get a bazillion steps every day.

Buying a new one in a month
I liked this one at first.  I charged, wore and downloadd new apps needed ofr this particular product (had fitbit before).  I liked the price so I gave it a try.  Recharged once.  Went to recharge the 2nd time and will not plug into any of my ports.  Buying a new one as I never was in love with it and do not have time to fool with getting it to charge.

Just Okay
For the price, it is just okay.  The wrist motion normally is not enough to turn the display on.  Need to wack it or shake it. Beware of the wristband clasp.  Using it while working where it is possible to scape against the band clasp it will come off and you may or may not know it.  Why not have a normal watch clasp or a least a band to slip over the end?  Works well with the virgin app which is required by my company so that is the big reason for choosing it.

I love it!
So far so good. I was cought off guard when the alarm went off and woke me up, but it was great!!! It's a nice way to not wake up others. It vibrated on my hand. Also, my texts and calls showed on it. It has been so convenient. I'm still learning about it and trying it out. I've had it one far, I love it.

Free device, but can’t recommend for step counting
Does not track steps accurately. After several days of testing, it consistently does not track running or walking steps accurately. Usually it will report 100-125 steps for every 200. This adds up missed steps fast. By the end of the day, my steps are so far off that I’m needing do much more exercise than normally required to hit goals. As a watch, it’s great! Battery life is fantastic. It also sends texts from my iPhone and lets me know if someone is calling. Nice for free.

Bad Band Design - falls off and now lost
Tracker itself is great, but the band design is bad.  Relies on interference fit of the usb tab.  I had mine about six months.  It got loose and was falling off.  I noticed each time and was able to catch it / put it back on, until the last.  Now, it is gone forever.

I ended up getting this one because I was having issues with the Max. Overall, I like this one. It is much sleeker than the Max, not so big and clunky. I really like the fact that I don’t have to press a button to sync it with the app; it does it automatically. I also really like that I can just plug it in to charge it, instead of having to go get batteries when it would flash “battery low”. I don’t get nearly as many steps with the Buzz as I did with the Max, so that is super disappointing. I like the light up display for the time/steps/miles/calories, but the device is kind of finicky in the sense that when I flick my wrist, it doesn’t always show up. Overall, pretty good device.

Good value with a major flaw
Overall, the tracker does it's primary function with more than adequate competence. It tracks steps about as well as anything else I have used. It syncs to the Pulse app and syncs data without issues.

Piddling drawback is it's inability to track things such as bike rides and swimming with anything near accurate.

The biggest flaw is the strap. It's held in place with two metal stubs that are inserted into the small holes on the rubber strap. So, imagine wearing a snug shirt with buttons that are barely larger in diameter than the button holes.

I've had the device fall off my wrist while doing nothing strenuous. What it needs is a more secure mechanism to keep it on a persons wrist. Other than that, no other complaints.
